“The Israelites looked for a king limited by geography – to Israel;_
But God gave them a King who is not limited by geography – to the world.
The Israelites looked for a king who will reign in Jerusalem;
But God gave them a King who reigns in the hearts of the whole world.
The Israelites looked for a king who will fight with swords, spears and chariots;
But God gave them a King who will conquer by bringing peace into the hearts all mankind.
The Israelites looked for a king who will grant them temporary peace by conquering their neighbours;
But God gave them a King who will give them permanent peace by uniting the whole world unto himself!
The Israelites looked for the king of the Jews;
But God gave them the Saviour of the entire world!
Although we most times do not see it, God always exceeds our expectations!”

I wrote this poem about seven years back. I was reminded of it recently when a theology professor stated that the Israelites still expect the Messiah!

They still expect the Messiah because the mold in which they cast their expected Messiah is not the way He came; He came in a bigger, better, wider and universal mold!

Jesus brought the peace the world needed so desperately.

READ Matthew 11:2-6

“`”And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, ‘Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’

Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.’ ““` (Matthew 11:2-6)

Jesus’s answer to the emissaries of John the Baptist was not new. They were foretold (Genesis 49:10; Isaiah 9:1-6; Isaiah 11:1-5; Isaiah 35:4-6; Isaiah 53:1-12; Daniel 9:24-27).

Some actually realised He was the Messaiah!

“`”Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, ‘This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.’

Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.”“` (John 6:14-15)

Are you looking for another savior, prophet and king?

He is already here. This reminds me of the third stanza of the John Newton classic, ” How sweet the name of Jesus sounds. “ It says,

” O Jesus, shepherd, guardian, friend, my Prophet, Priest, and King; my Lord, my Life, my Way, my End, accept the praise I bring.”

MEMORY VERSE
"The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them." (Matthew 11:5)
