God’s original mandate to man was in Genesis 1:28 where we read:

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

This would be repeated to Noah in Genesis 9:1 where we read:

So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.”

Then to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 in an expanded form:

Now the Lord had said to Abram:

“Get out of your country, From your family And from your father`s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Then through Moses to the Israelites in Exodus 19:5-6

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.` These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Note that the promise to Adam was, by extension, to all men because he was the father of all mankind. But along the line man fell. Subsequently, God made His first promise of restoration through Christ in Genesis 3:15 when He said:

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

This led to the one to Noah, Abraham, Moses and David. God further emphasised his covenant to Abraham, after his obedience to sacrifice Isaac, when He said (Genesis 22:15-18):

“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son– blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

The prophesy about Jesus also pointed to Israel.

In Luke 1:30-33, we read:

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

These, together with many other prophesies and promises point to Israel as God’s holy nation and special people.

So where from the statement found in Acts 13:46 ? Futher, what does the following quote from Paul’s letter to the Colossians mean:

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Colossians 1:19-20

Christ is definitely indispesable in God’s plan for the universe.

Are we also indsipensable?

Is Christianity indispensable?

This is “Food for Thought.”
