Prayer involves asking, whilst receiving your answers involves thinking.

I heard a story of a mother who took her son, a learner pianist, to the concert of the great pianist, Paderewski. The boy spotted an opportunity to get on stage and run off to sit in the master’s seat. When the curtains came down the little boy started playing “twinkle, twinkle little star”.

Paderewski quickly went to sit next to the little boy and played his masterpiece with him. Together it made the most beautiful music!

When we pray it moves us into the seat like the little boy to await God’s action.

In the first letter of Apostle Paul to the Corinthians, he wrote:

But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

( 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NKJV )

When we sit back to think about the solutions we are seeking from God, He comes alongside in our minds to infuse His thoughts into ours; to create a beautiful idea that we could never have conceived on our own. The scripture text above affirms this. This process happens so naturally that without making a conscious effort we may not realize that the new strategy that suddenly came into our minds came from God.

Initially, it is difficult because the mind will tend to drift to our problems, instead of the solutions. But as we practice this we begin to make progress in solution minded thinking. This allows God to speak to us. Without creating the right conditions in our thinking, God cannot speak to us.

The most important mental condition is peace. It guards our mind from the external noise so we can hear God’s voice in our minds.

God does not only give us what we ask, but what we think as well. It is therefore important we improve our thinking.

We get more that way.

VERSE TO REMEBER

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

(Ephesians 3:20 NKJV)

REFLECTION

When was the last time you tried to think?

How can you improve your thinking process?
