“Lord, please help me fill my cup with gratitude to You first for life, and to wonderful people who make my days wonderful…also Lord, please help me fill my cup with boundless joy, inexplicable peace, inexhaustible bowels of forgiveness, overflowing streams of mercy and amazing fruits of righteousness. Thank you Lord.”

I wrote this prayer in response to a post that a friend, Zilla, sent me with the title, “I Love This Analogy”. It talks about what we have in us, and what spills over when we are shaken.

Please find “I Love This Analogy” below.

“You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee? “Because someone bumped into me!!!” Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves… β€œwhat’s in my cup?”When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.

Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.”

The letter to the church in Thessaloniki has some good advice on how to fill your cup.

READ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”(1 Thess 5:16-18)

Rejoicing always happens when you trust God, and believe that all things work together for good.(Romans 8:28).

Praying continuously keeps you connected to God; and assures you that, “God’s got your back always”! It tells Him you still trust Him, and reminds you that you are never alone!

Giving thanks, gratitude, always compels us to recall God’s goodness in the past. Those are our testimonies! Combining our Testimonies with the high price Jesus paid with His blood, we realize we can’t go back, or look back; and that is how we overcome(Rev 12:11)!

Rejoice, pray, give thanks. When these three are in your cup, what spills out is always beautiful.

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; give thanks.

MEMORY VERSE

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks.” (1 Thess. 5:16-18)
