I have this weird habit of copying whole web pages of articles I find interesting, and pasting them in a document; with the web address at the bottom. I do this so that in case the webpage is removed, I can still get the article; sort of keeping copies of what I read.
I chanced on one of those I copied in August 2016, entitled “7 Weird Tricks to Help You Fall Asleep Faster” which had no address at the bottom. So I went looking for it online by pasting its title in google. I didn’t get the particular document, but got so many others, with various titles on sleep:
“7 weird tricks that will help you fall asleep quicker, Seven tips for getting – and staying – asleep faster, 7 mind tricks to help you fall asleep faster, 3 Simple Tricks to Fall Asleep Fast That Are Weird but…., How to Fall Asleep Fast (in Five Minutes or Less), 17 proven science tricks to fall asleep faster & sleep better …, 15 Science-Backed Ways To Fall Asleep Faster, 5 Ways To Trick Your Brain Into Falling Asleep Faster …”
And the prescriptions are so many,
“Sing yourself a lullaby, Rock yourself, Tidy up your bedroom before bed, Write in a journal, Try cherry juice, Fall asleep with a light weight on top of you, Breathe deeply, Hum like a bee, Get rid of the blue light, Try some bedtime yoga, Keep a journal, Don’t have a coffee after 6pm, Talk it out, Get up and do something for 10 minutes, Cool your room, Take a warm shower before bed, Wear socks to bed, Immerse your face in very cold water for 30 seconds, Use the “4-7-8” method, Scent your bedroom with lavender, Picture your favorite place, Listen to music, , Practice progressive relaxation, Give yourself acupressure, ……”
So many that trying to read them might even deprive you of the little sleep you are trying to save, and improve.
The ones that really got me excited are:
“Hide your clock, Eat dinner by candlelight, Blow bubbles, Curl your toes!”
So much trouble to get one sleep? Let me suggest an alternative way.
READ Proverbs 3:19-24
“The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
By understanding He established the heavens;
By His knowledge the depths were broken up,
And clouds drop down the dew.
My son, let them not depart from your eyes
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.
Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.”(Proverbs 3:19-24)
For emphasis, I want to repeat this:
“Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.”
But the text started by saying
“The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;”
The One who founded the earth, within which you are trying to find sleep, has a prescription; He invites us to seek the wisdom He used to found the earth; and we will lie down and our sleep will be sweet!
I have seen so many scathing attacks on Religion in general, and God in particular, lately; with people questioning God’s existence, and being!
God exists! Just look around you, and you’ll see that He exists. How long would you want to deny that God exists? He is inviting you to come to Him; and He will not only give you sleep, but “you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.” I challenge you to try Him, then tell me it’s a lie!
God is inviting you today. Will you?
MEMORY VERSE
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.”(Proverbs 3:24)
QUESTIONS
1. Have you been struggling to have peace, and find rest?
2. There is no rest, other than in God. In Him we find rest. Why not try Him?

Father, we have wandered and searched and are weary! We have failed to acknowledge you. Forgive us, and help us find rest in You.
