Gifts Grow In The Wilderness
Views: 49
Joseph was an arrogant young man when God gave him the dream of becoming a leader. However when he went through the wilderness, he came out a humble, disciplined and wise.
God promoted him because of the new qualities he had developed. He had become perfect for leadership because his gifts grew and got refined in the wilderness.
READ Genesis 41:14, 39-40
“So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh.”
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you. ” (Genesis 41:14, 39-40 NIV)
Joseph was released from prison (vv. 14) and became a Prime minister almost immediately (vv. 40)! He had been using his gift in prison; the gift of interpretation of dreams. That gift got the attention of the king, and brought Joseph before him.
David was also a young man when he was anointed as king but it took several trips in the wilderness to release the physical attributes of a king. He developed the skills of a worshipper and a warrior when he was a shepherd boy in the wilderness. These skills touched the heart of God and man when he killed Goliath! His skills as a leader, and army commander, were also developed when he escaped from Saul into the wilderness; and trained the people that were with him.
The people would later remember David’s victory over Goliath, and come looking for him to make him king as recorded in 2 Samuel 5:1-2.
All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler. ’”
(2 Samuel 5:1-2 NIV)
Both Joseph and David went straight from the wilderness into the palace where they enjoyed great wealth and power.
When the wilderness is over, we will be released into opportunities to take new positions.
We have two decisions to make today: We either worry about the future, or cry out to God about which skills to develop to make us relevant when we leave the wilderness and take up our new position. We have that choice.
