I believe that we always ought to pray, but I also believe that God moves on our behalf when we are not able to pray; especially when we are burdened, weary or weak.

I shared the story of how we fell asleep while nursing our son’s fever, in yesterday’s devotional entitled, Jesus Take The Wheels.

I believe the short prayer — inviting God to take over — was very helpful. It gave me the relief and assurance that I had requested for sure help, from an unfailing source.

I also believe that God would still have come through for us, even if I had been so weary that I could not even pray. There are times like that; and I would have simply missed the reassurance of an explicit handover to God, but not His intervention.

 I believe this, because God’s word says the Spirit intercedes on our behalf when we are weak.

READ Romans 8:26-27

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27)

This is what the Matthew Henry Bible Commentary says about Romans 8:26-27:

“Though the infirmities of Christians are many and great, so that they would be overpowered if left to themselves, yet the Holy Spirit supports them.

The Spirit,

a) As an enlightening Spirit, teaches us what to pray for;

b) As a sanctifying Spirit, works and stirs up praying graces;

c) As a comforting Spirit, silences our fears, and helps us over all discouragements.

The Holy Spirit is the spring of all desires toward God, which are often more than words can utter. The Spirit who searches the hearts, can perceive the mind and will of the spirit, the renewed mind, and advocates his cause. The Spirit makes intercession to God, and the enemy prevails not.”

This is the heritage of God’s children!

When we abide in God through our obedience in prayer when there is no crisis, we stay connected to God, making deposits in our spiritual treasury; which come through for us when we are not able to pray (Hebrews 4:16).

Life can be uncertain. The reason we need to stay connected to God, always.

MEMORY VERSE

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

QUESTIONS

1. Do you wonder what would happen if events take you by surprise, and you have no time to pray?

2. Do you know you can prepare ahead, by approaching the throne of grace to obtain mercy and grace for the time of need?

PRAYER TIP

Almighty Father, please help us to always be connected to You, through our obedient prayer; so we are never on our own.
