Let The Children
Views: 56
I was listening to a radio program this morning; and one man made a statement which resonates a lot with me. He said,
“My mother is not into the God thing; but she made sure we all went to church every Sunday.”
There are many things I learnt as a child, that are still with me. Generally, what is taught in church teaches children they are accountable to God, and shapes their morals and makes them selfless, and balanced; even into adulthood
So it is not just religion that is taught by the Bible, and in the church!
READ Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
This is one of the reasons the Bible is my all time favourite book! Please look at the text above carefully. Is it a religious statement?
Let us look at another great text.
“He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” (Proverbs 13:24)
Is there anything religious about this?
We all know that habits and character are best shaped when young; and most difficult to change when grown.
The Bible is the most child friendly book I have ever come across. And church does the work of shaping children’s character for those who are not able to; and compliments the efforts of those who are already doing a great job. I have heard testimonies, even from non-Christians, about the transformation that going to church brought into their children.
It is the reason Jesus said in Matthew 19:14
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
We might have your problems with God, even with men; sometimes men who claim to be of God. But please let us not let our issues deprive our children of the vital life lessons church equips them with.
Please let the children go to church.
MEMORY VERSE
“Children are a gift from the Lord.” (Proverbs 127:3)
QUESTIONS
1. Have you been preventing your children from going to church?
2. Do you know you are doing them a great harm?
PRAYER TIP
Father, please help us in every way not to deprive our children of the vital life lessons they can get from going to church.
