Jennifer Wiseman, a Christian astrophysicist and director of Dialogue on Science, Ethics and Religion, a program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, told the ABC news that science was a “wonderful tool for understanding the physical universe” but religious beliefs provide answers to bigger philosophical questions in life.

“We are physically connected to the universe and I think we have a deeper connection as well,” she said.

I could not agree with her more. From my years of studying science, this is how I see science: It only tries to understand what is already there, or modifies it.  It creates nothing! The science law, called the Law of Conservation of Matter, attests to this fact. It says,

“Matter is neither created nor destroyed. It is only converted from one form to another.”

If matter is neither created nor destroyed, then we should be asking ourselves how they came to exist. Not even the “big-bang” theory could answer that! Big bang could not explain how their “single point” that the universe expanded from, came about!

Bible has the answer.

READ Job 38:1-12

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

 “Who is this who darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
 Now prepare yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me.

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.
 Who determined its measurements?
Surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
To what were its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

“Or who shut in the sea with doors,
When it burst forth and issued from the womb;
 When I made the clouds its garment,
And thick darkness its swaddling band;
 When I fixed My limit for it,
And set bars and doors;
When I said,
‘This far you may come, but no farther,
And here your proud waves must stop!’

“Have you commanded the morning since your days began,
And caused the dawn to know its place,

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,
And the wicked be shaken out of it?
 It takes on form like clay under a seal,
And stands out like a garment.
 From the wicked their light is withheld,
And the upraised arm is broken.

“Have you entered the springs of the sea?
Or have you walked in search of the depths?
Have the gates of death been revealed to you?
Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?
Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth?
Tell Me, if you know all this.”

(Job 38:1-18 NKJV)

Job, when he was afflicted called on God and questioned why God was not responding (Job 30:20). God finally decided to respond to Job, and what we just read is a small part of His response (goes all the way to Job 41:34, interrupted briefly by Job’s concession in 40:3-5)!

God decided to also ask Job some questions, and the first real (question in vv. 2 seems rhetorical) question was,

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? (vv. 4)

After the first string of questions, Job’s only response was,

“Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth.
Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”
(40:4-5)

Moses recognized God’s transcendent nature and wrote

“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”  (Psalm 90:2 NIV)

God answers the unanswered questions of science and philosophy.

MEMORY VERSE

“Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth?
Tell Me, if you know all this.”
(Job 38:18)

QUESTIONS

1. Do you know that science actually reveals God?

2. Do you know that it is only God that answers all existential questions conclusively?

PRAYER TIP

Almighty Father, please help us to trust you, instead of believing scientists who do not have answers.

But God in His mercy and love gives us a chance to reverse this trend, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God!

Do you want to make that decision today?
