Sometimes, just a look at all the things you have to do can make your heart sink!

While some of the things you have to do genuinely deserve to be on the to-do list; some just don’t deserve to be there, and are absolutely avoidable. So you think you are minding your own business, even living your righteous life and trying to please God, then bam! Out of nowhere, a problem is created, which affects you; and you are compelled to give it your attention!

The problem would probably not be there if only everything runs perfectly; if only others would be reasonable, be responsible, do the needful, and not create unnecessary problems that need to be solved. If only others would not draw us into needless contests!

These only come to remind us that we live in an imperfect world, and are connected and interact with other imperfect creation. Therefore, however “perfect” we might be, the imperfections of the world around us invariably affect us.

One of the best skills we can have is to be organized and plan everything we want to do carefully, to the minutest detail.  But even that can get messed up, not through any fault of ours! This can lead to frustration.

We get frustrated because we think we are in control. So when we realize we are not as much in control as we thought, then we get frustrated. When these frustrations go on for a while, we give up. And sometimes tragically on life itself!

It need not be so. Jesus gave us an example of how we need to pursue our desires.

READ Luke 22:41-43

And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying,

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. (Luke 22:41-43 NKJV)

Jesus was coming face to face with the most difficult part of His mission on this earth; the death on the cross! Being man and divine at the same time, the flesh felt weak. He knew he would be forsaken by the Father, and could not imagine how that would be like! Followed by the remnant of His disciples, He went to His usual hideout, on the mount of Olives; in the Garden of Gethsemane! There, He withdrew further from the disciples, knelt down and prayed. There are two things about this prayer we need to note.

1. He was very clear about His plans: He didn’t want to go to the cross; and wished the father would take that “cup” away from him.

2. He was also very careful to state that, whatever he desired should be in the Father’s will; but if not, then the Father’s will should be done.

Jesus made sure whatever He did was aligned to the Father’s will; and if not, then the Father’s will takes precedence. That is why Jesus was so successful in His ministry: He was well aligned to the Father’s will, and actively submitted His will to the Father’s will through prayer! Actively!

Interestingly, God did not take the cup away from Him, but sent an angel to strengthen Him!

When we actively submit our will to God’s will, in prayer, we know it is God’s will even if things don’t go our way; and God will send His angel to strengthen us. That gives us a lot of peace, and we don’t feel any burdens of failure, disappointment and frustration.

May we be like Jesus; and always align our wishes to God’s perfect will.

God’s will is the only certainty in this world of uncertainty.

The angels are waiting.

nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)

URGENT CALL

By nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God. We ultimately face the wrath of God!

But God in His mercy and love gives us a chance to reverse this trend, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God!

Do you want to make that decision today?

Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer” for guidance if you want to make that decision.
