I have heard stories of people with very impressive salaries and other juicy conditions of employment, especially in the developed world; but who still end up neck deep in debt! The reason most of them give for their situation is that, the system is structured in such a way as to eventually take all the money back! So, the impressive figures are just charades!

Sometimes, we expect God to act the same: say He has given us something, then pass round and take it back!

So, I have often heard people say,

“If God truly exists, then he is a wicked God; and I don’t want to have anything to do with Him!”

Their reason is that they don’t understand why a loving God can look on unconcerned for all the suffering, deprivation, starvation, disasters, disease, exploitation, greed, murder, genocides and gross disregard for life and one another; be happening. They feel a loving God should not allow evil to continue.

They are very right in thinking God is a loving God, but wrong in thinking He doesn’t care! On the contrary, He cares a lot!

If God really, really wants to intervene forcefully, He would probably destroy the entire human race the way He did in Noah’s time; because we are all evil! Those who accuse God of not caring are themselves evil! I am evil, and you are evil: we are all evil! Just think of it: haven’t you had any evil thoughts just in the past seven days? Well, I have had!

But God decided to intervene by changing us from evil to good, one heart at a time! That is why He sent Jesus Christ!

God never desired to treat humans like zombies; without intellect, thought, and choice!

He made that clear at creation. He made a choice to create us in His own image and likeness, and gave us the ability to make choices too.

READ Genesis 1:26-31

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said,

“Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.”

And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

(Genesis 1:26-31 ESV)

This is the very popular creation story.

God’s intention for creating man was very clear in verse. 26; that man will have dominion over all the earth.

He reiterated this in verse 28 when He blessed the first man and woman, and said to them;

“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The word “dominion” has its roots the Medieval Latin word “dominio” and equivalent to Latin “dominium” meaning “lordship, right of ownership”  from dominus (“lord”), from domus (“house”).

So in those pronunciations, God gave human beings Lordship over the earth in a divine plan where we also look up to Him as our Lord!

But God’s grand plan for creation changed when man chose to trust the enemy over God; believed what the serpent said over what God said; and broke ranks with God!

So instead God as Lord over man, and man as lord over the earth; we now have the Satan as the lord over man, and man as lord over the earth! It is the reason Satan is referred to as “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

What God has been trying to do, is to bring man back under His Lordship; not by compulsion, but rather by persuasion (remember He has given lordship to man already; and He doesn’t lie!).

Therefore, next time you see someone sharing the Gospel of Christ, to convince people to accept Him as their Lord and savior, and join God’s kingdom; remember that it is not because God is powerless and weak to turn everyone into a Christian by just saying it! See it this way rather:

That God is powerful enough to hold back His indignation and disgust in order to keep His word that He spoke at the beginning!

Instead of standing aloof and complaining, you can move His divine cause one step forward; by re-aligning to the divine order by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, and inviting others to do the same.

In God’s perfect world, He is the Lord over all men; and men are the lords over the entire earth!

If that happens and you still see evil, then you can question God.

We have work to do.  All hands on deck!

MEMORY VERSE

“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.”

(Genesis 1:28)

QUESTIONS

  • Have you also wondered why God seems to be silent and allows evil to dominate?
  • Do you know you have dominion on this earth, and the solution lies with you?

PRAYER TIP

Father, please help us to
understand the authority
you have given us on this earth.

URGENT CALL

By nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God. We ultimately face the wrath of God!

But God in His mercy and love gives us a chance to reverse this trend, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God!
