Justice Inspired By Love
Views: 56
I always make it a point to calmly explain why I am taking any punitive action against my children, and any child, to the child. I want them to know that even in punishing them, I do it in love; and want them to understand it that way, clearly. Martin Luther King Jr. is quoted as saying:
“We cannot understand God’s love
separated from His justice.”
God is not one sided: He always balances His love with His justice. Psalm 11:1 says,
“A false balance is an abomination to the Lord; but a just weight is His delight.”
This character of God is all over scripture, and scripture itself attests to it.
READ 2 Timothy 3:16
In this often quoted scripture, the two-edged nature (Hebrews 4:12) of God’s word (hence God’s character) is clearly seen. I call them the constructive and destructive nature of God.
God’s inspired scripture is useful for:
Teaching us : | What is right (constructive) |
Rebuking us: | Of what is NOT right (destructive) |
Correcting us: | So that we will be leave what is NOT right (destructive) |
Training us: | So that we will stay right (constructive) |
God, in His love, will always want us to be “Right”. His love constrains Him to allow us to go through certain situations: to teach us (Deuteronomy 8:3), to chastise, discipline and correct us (Hebrews 12:6); and other times to refine, strengthen and prove our faith (1 Peter 1:7) and also to train us (Hebrews 5:14).
God’s justice is inspired by His love; and is ultimately for our good
MEMORY VERSE
“Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him.”
(Isaiah 30:18)
QUESTIONS
- Have you also wondered why God does not always allow us to go the easy way?
- Do you know that it is all grounded in His love for us?
PRAYER TIP
Father, please help us to understand
that Your love and Your Justice
work hand-in-hand.
URGENT CALL
By nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God. We ultimately face the wrath of God!
But God in His mercy and love gives us a chance to reverse this trend, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.
The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.
Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.
It is a very personal decision. No one can make for you.
If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God!
Do you want to make that decision today?
Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer”
