The Value of A Soul
Views: 80
Just over six years ago, on November 9 2014, we heard the tragic death of Myles Munroe in a plane crash. Severe weather was thought to have contributed to the crash. It is reported that the Lear 36 Executive Jet exploded on impact with a crane at the Grand Bahama Ship Yard and plunged into a junkyard below, in heavy rain; as it was approaching the Grand Bahama International Airport. A commercial flight on the same route had turned back around the same time because it was unable to land. Myles Munroe was very influential as a pastor, evangelist, author, lecturer, teacher, leadership mentor, life coach, business consultant and governance consultant.
What most people did not hear was that nine people died in that ill-fated trip as they were heading to Grand Bahama for a conference. They include Myles and Ruth Munroe, Senior vice president of Bahamas Faith Ministries, Richard Pinder, youth ministers Lavard Parks and his wife Rudel, and their 5-year old son, Johannan Parks. The pilot, his guest, and another pilot also died in the crash.
The death of Myles Munroe was big news because of his evangelistic work, and his influence as a life coach. But each person that died that day, any soul that perished that day, was very important to God. Listen to what Jesus said.
READ Mark 8:36-37
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
(Mark 8:36-37)
This scripture text, which also appeared in Matthew 16:26, says a lot of things; but one that is not so obvious is the value it places on souls. Not just my soul, or your soul, but also the souls of those that are not so prominent in our view. Often, we are sucked into putting values on people based on our world standard of measurement, and prominence. But what Jesus tells us in the scripture text above is that we each occupy just a small part of this world; but each of us is more valuable than this whole world! Each of us is carrying value which is more than the world we walk on! Let me put this more succinctly.
The Cullinan diamond is the largest rough diamond ever found, weighing an incredible 3,106.75 carats (just a bit above half a kilo)! Discovered in South Africa in 1905, it was still unsold after two years, then gifted to King Edward VII. It is believed to be worth 2 dollars! To cut it, Abraham Ascher (of Joseph Asscher & Co. of Amsterdam) picked it up and returned to the Netherlands by train and ferry with the diamond in his coat pocket! The diamond was several times more valuable than the pocket that carried it! It was so valuable that a Royal Navy ship carried an empty box across the North Sea to much fanfare, throwing off potential thieves; even the captain had no idea that his “precious cargo” was a decoy!
Jesus tells us that the whole world, including the Cullinan diamond and similar diamonds not yet discovered; including all the billions and trillions of dollars floating in the world economic system; is still not worth one soul; not even the ones that humans consider worthless !
I agree with Jesus, because I am yet to see the world, with its billions and trillions, create one human being, let alone create a soul!
As you go about your routines today, please put things in perspective; know that your soul, and that of every human being you meet, is worth more than this world!

URGENT CALL
Every soul is valuable to God, far more than the entire world! But by nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God, and we ultimately face his wrath!
God in His mercy and love made a way for us to remedy this. He gives us a chance to reverse this downward spiral to destruction, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.
The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.
Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.
It is a very personal decision. No one can make that decision for you.
If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God! A soul, much, much more valuable than the world, has been saved from destruction!
Do you want to make that decision today?

I never forgot a line in a childhood play that I was part of. “A soul is a soul, and a soul is precious to God” I believe that we all need to stop every once in a while to ponder on the value of a soul. This will change our attitude towards soul winning, whether we are doing it ourselves or supporting others who do. God bless you for this reminder.
