There are many who believe that certain things run in their families, and are also made to believe there is nothing they can do about it. So they do nothing about it, but wait for it to happen. And when it happens, they say:

"Aha, I knew it was coming."

I remember I was once told that one of my great great grandfathers was so wealthy that he did not know what to do with his wealth, so he decided to “buy” an illness so that he could have something to spend on. Some people believed it, and anticipated it, and that illness was running in the family; but when I  became born again, I denounced all that!

In a class on addictions recently, I realized that certain behaviors that I see in males on my paternal and maternal sides, and have always attributed to lack of self discipline, could actually be addictions. I got more convinced when I got to know that some of the things we see as bad behaviors are actually addictions, and that addictions run in families!

I heard the stories of two addicts who are now staunch believers recently. In their accounts of how they got out, one said he had been in and out of psychiatric hospital several times, but got up one day and said, “It is over!” And he has been free since! Another said he never went to  any psychiatric hospital, or for any therapy. He heard a sermon by Dr. Mensa Otabil entitled “Stepping Out from Your Prison” in March 2018, and kept listening to him now and then. Then in September 2018 he was watching TV again, simply got up and said,

"I am not doing this thing any longer. It is not helpful!"

Then he flushed the substance down the toilet, and has since stayed clean. When both were asked how they did it, they said,

“God’s Grace!”

And for as long as they continued to love God, they never went back. I reproduce a public interview granted by one of them below.

So, at the core of all the problems we have is the love for self, instead of love for God; as we indicated in the devotional titled, “Destructive Choices.” To prevent it, you need to love God; and to solve it, you need to love God too! For as long as “Self” remains on the throne, the problems continue, even through generations! But once self  is removed and God put on the throne, He heals and restores everything! Why is that so? How does that happen?

READ Colossians 3: 3

“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

(Colossians 3: 3 NIV)

The Psalmist explained what it means for your life to be hidden in Christ, in Psalm 91.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall [c]bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
 With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”

When your life is hidden with Christ in God, a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you!

I am a walking testimony.

MEMORY VERSE

No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.
( Psalm 91:10)

URGENT CALL

Every soul is valuable to God, far more than the entire world! But by nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God, and we ultimately face his wrath!

God in His mercy and love made a way for us to remedy this. He gives us a chance to reverse this downward spiral to destruction, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make that decision for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God! A soul, much, much more valuable than the world, has been saved from destruction!

Do you want to make that decision today?

Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer
for guidance if you want
to make that decision.

We will be happy to hear from you through the contact information on that page, or the ones at the top of this page. Don’t delay. Make this very personal decision today!

God richly bless you
