There are so many things we take for granted. I saw a post on the profile of a friend, who is a medical statistician and a lecturer in public health, recently. It reads,

“The hunger virus kills about 8,000 children a day, and the vaccine for it exists. It’s called ‘food’. But you won’t hear it in the media because hunger doesn’t kill the rich. It’s time to reevaluate our priorities.”

Using a 365-day year as basis, that comes to 2.92 million deaths from hunger annually!

The answer, interestingly, is food! The food that we buy in excess and allow to rot, or go stale in our fridges! The food that we dish in excess into our plates, and later throw away as leftovers! The ones that hide at the bottom of our freezers; and we forget they exist and spend money buying more!

God’s position on waste is very clear. Here is one vivid account when God led the Israelites out of Egypt.

And Moses told them,
“It is the food the Lord has given you to eat.  These are the Lord’s instructions: Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts for each person in your tent.”

So the people of Israel did as they were told. Some gathered a lot, some only a little.  But when they measured it out, everyone had just enough. Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough. Each family had just what it needed.

Then Moses told them,
“Do not keep any of it until morning.”

But some of them didn’t listen and kept some of it until morning. But by then it was full of maggots and had a terrible smell. Moses was very angry with them. After this the people gathered the food morning by morning, each family according to its need.

(Exodus 16:15-21 NLT)

The instructions were very clear. Gather as much as you need, and don’t keep any of it until morning. But some disobeyed and kept some till the morning, which got infested with maggots and had a terrible smell. Moses was very angry! I wonder how God felt about the disobedience, and subsequent waste. The account in vv. 23-24 of the same chapter shows that God is not against planning for tomorrow, but He is against waste. Proverbs 16:22 says,

Plans fail without good advice.

We need to plan, but we need to plan in such a way that nothing goes waste. That way, we would not spend on buying the same things that go waste, and would save enough to support others. In 1 Peter 4:10, we read,

“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”

The gifts are not for us to waste. We are to serve one another with them. It is ingratitude to God to allow His blessings to go waste. It also makes us bad stewards!

Let us be grateful through our good stewardship.

MEMORY VERSE

URGENT CALL

Every soul is valuable to God, far more than the entire world! But by nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God, and we ultimately face his wrath!

God in His mercy and love made a way for us to remedy this. He gives us a chance to reverse this downward spiral to destruction, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make that decision for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God! A soul, much, much more valuable than the world, has been saved from destruction!

Do you want to make that decision today?

Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer
for guidance if you want
to make that decision.

We will be happy to hear from you through the contact information on that page, or the ones at the top of this page. Don’t delay. Make this very personal decision today!

God richly bless you
