I remember the first time I represented my basic school, Agomanya Methodist Middle School, in a quiz competition. We had a British school system then, and the American-type Junior High School(JHS) and Senior High School(SHS) concepts were then in their pilot phase to replace the legacy British systems inherited after independence.
Each pupil in the school, then, belong to what used to be called a “Section.” The Sections were named after the colours Red, Blue, Yellow and Green; and the Sections competed in everything: from being the most well-dressed, to keeping their portion of the school cleanest, to having the best match-past during independence parade rehearsals, to through sports and athletics, to quiz competitions.
Each Section in my school was tasked to present pupils for the first round of the annual quiz competition from which the best would be shortlisted to represent the school. I was then thirteen, and new in the school, and was in Section “Blue.” I was not chosen to represent it.
A teacher who had interest in me pleaded they include me on a “non-scoring” basis. There was confusion when the results were announced. I excelled in the group, and the Blue Section insisted I was one of their own, and Section deserved the accolades. The other Sections argued the Blue Section did not select me, and deserved nothing! Woefully, my Section lost the fight.
As we go through life, we face many choices. Either we are choosing, or we are being chosen.
One of the biggest choices of my life was being chosen to become a child of God!
A lot of people joke with it when they are called to become children of God, and some actually mock it. But it is not just anyone that gets chosen to be become a child of God.
In Paul’s letter to the Romans, he wrote:
The use of expressions “the called”, “predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son”, and “whom He predestined, these He also called” in the text above tells clearly that being a child of God is a special privilege.
We cannot take His call for granted, and we cannot take our status as Children of God for granted!
Are you taking God’s call to become His child for granted?

QUESTIONS
Are you a child of God, or called to be a child of God?
Do you know that the call to become a child of God is a privilege?
PRAYER TIP
Thank You Father, for calling me. I do not take the privilege You gave me -- to be a Child of God -- for granted. I am eternally grateful.
URGENT CALL
Every soul is valuable to God, far more than the entire world! But by nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God, and we ultimately face his wrath!
God in His mercy and love made a way for us to remedy this. He gives us a chance to reverse this downward spiral to destruction, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.
The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.
Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.
It is a very personal decision. No one can make that decision for you.
If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God! A soul, much, much more valuable than the world, has been saved from destruction!
Do you want to make that decision today?
Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer”
