It is usual to hear people say,

“This is my friend,” or “I have this friend here or there…”

But who is a friend?

Oxford languages defines a friend as,

“A person with whom you have a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations.”

Friends share a mutual bond with you, and are the ones you celebrate with. They are the ones that stick with you in difficult times. They are the ones that tell you “it’s OK” when you are in turmoil. They are the ones you can bare your heart out to without fear, or holding back. They are the ones that listen to you without judging, however wrong you are. Friends know you, and are not afraid to tell you the truth, however bitter. They are the ones that cry with you, and feel your pain. Friends are the ones who stay  when everyone else has deserted you; they are your sanctuary, your safe haven, and you are not ashamed and insecure before them. In Proverbs 18:24, we Read,

“There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Jesus  told His disciples:

“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing.

But I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”

(John 15:15 NLT)

We are Jesus’ friends. He wants us to approach Him freely, converse with Him and tell Him what is on our heart; and obtain mercy and grace for a time of need.

MEMORY VERSE

But I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”

(John 15:15)
