I read a story recently of a carpenter who made it a point to enter a chapel, which is on  his way to work, and “greet” Jesus every morning before he goes to work.

So each day on his way to work, he will go to the chapel and say,

“Jesus, I am here to greet you”

He did this for many years and it became his habit. He went to work one day as usual, but there was an accident. He fell down from the roof of a building he was working on, and broke his spine. He was taken round many hospitals but they could not help him, and he became paralyzed.

But one day, while alone at the hospital, a man who was dressed in white, walked into the room and greeted him saying,

“My friend I have come to greet you.”

The paralyzed man replied,

“Thank you.”

The visitor then left without saying anything further. But this man began to notice changes in his body, and to his greatest surprise, he got up and sat down on the bed; something he could not do previously. He went on to complete recovery.

The man believed Jesus came looking for him, when he stopped going to greet him in the chapel. He was visiting Jesus daily for many years but one singular visit by Jesus changed his hopelessness to joy!

I don’t know the source of this story, and cannot authenticate it. But there is something Jesus-like about what happened. The story of Lazarus who had been buried for four days (John 11:1-44), the parable of the sower in which only a few seed landed on good ground, but yielded thirty fold, sixty fold and a hundred fold (Matthew 13: 1-23), and the wedding at Cana where Jesus waited till there was an emergency to perform a miracle(John 2:1-11); all tell me that Jesus has his own time and way of doing things, which often makes it appear like He is not hearing us.

Jesus steps in when we least expect, and gives us a miracle. He confirmed this with the parable of the unrighteous judge ( Luke 18:1-8)

The story started with,

“One day Jesus told His disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.”
 (Luke 18:1)

And ended with

“I tell you, He will grant justice to them quickly! but when the Son of Man returns, how many will He find on earth who have faith?”
(Luke 18:8)

What have you been praying about, and about to give up on? Jesus wants us to always pray and never give up?

MEMORY VERSE
