So when they had come together, they asked him,

“Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?”

He replied,

“It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

[Acts 1:6-9 ]

Note the question:

  • It was about what Jesus would be doing.
  • Their scope was Israel.
  • It was about restoration of one earthly kingdom.

 Note the answer:

  • It was about what the disciples would be doing.
  • The scope was a global scope, and not just about Israel.
  • It was not about the restoration of one earthly kingdom; but rather being witnesses and advocates to a new universal kingdom!
  • And, he was going to empower them to do it all, when his promised Holy Spirit comes upon them!

The disciples were quite blind to what Jesus was all about, even after his death and resurrection!

It took the coming of the Holy Spirit upon them for the disciples to get the drift of what Jesus was all about (Acts 2 & 3)! Suddenly, they began to witness about Jesus, instead of looking for some defunct kingdom!
We all need this Holy Spirit to open our eyes to what Jesus is about in our lives! No one wants to be sentenced to, and stuck with some stale and defunct needs; and be praying for same, day and night!

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, please help me to understand Jesus’ mission my life.

 MEMORY VERSE

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” [Acts 1:8]
