Celebrations!

I was watching a commercial for CAN 2019 recently, and in that commercial, they played short highlights of all the African Cup championships since its inception and maiden championship held in Sudan in 1957. One thing struck me as very remarkable!
They celebrated every goal they scored! The scoring players first, then the teammates, the coaches and the spectators all celebrate! Sometimes, they even celebrate the single goal they have scored although they know winning the match is beyond them! They celebrate the little victories, the small achievements, the milestones, the goalposts! No wonder they look forward to the next AFCON!
Heaven similarly celebrates little victories.
READ Luke 15:4-7
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, βRejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!β I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.” (Luke 15:4-7 NKJV)
I have often heard people say,
“I stopped going to church after I did this or that or that. And I feel God won’t accept me again. I am so filthy, so depraved, so unlovable.”
Basically, these people feel they have lost their status as God’s children, their status in Christ, and their salivation.
But that’s not the impression the Bible creates about God’s love, and attitude towards us when we fall in error.
In fact He comes looking for us; and when He finds us, there is great rejoicing in heaven!
If there will be great rejoicing in heaven, then what business do we have staying away with the excuse that God doesn’t want us?
God has made provision for us to always come back to Him. In 1 John 2:1-2, it is written,
“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”(1John 2:1-2)
God is never pleased to lose any of His children; He loves us and wants us to be with Him always; and even when we fall off, He comes looking for us!
What is keeping you away from God today? You have absolutely no reason to stay away
Come back to Him; He wants to jubilate; He wants to celebrate your comeback!
MEMORY VERSE
“I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:7)
QUESTIONS
1. What keeps you away from God?
2. In light of what we just read, do you still think He doesn’t want you back?
PRAYER TIP
Father, please help us to know the depth of Your love for us, to always remember that You will never give up on us.
