Look At The Birds
Views: 61
I just love birdsongs, especially those at dawn. Scientists call the mixture of birdsongs we hear in the wee hours of the morning “the dawn chorus.” Birds sing at any time of day, but their dawn choruses are often louder, livelier, and more frequent. It is believed these are predominantly male birds; and their songs are very attractive to potential mates. So the singing is a mating behavior, which also wards off other males. The reasons why they choose the hours around sunrise to sing are explained by a number of theories, which might all be true.
One theory is that, light levels are too low for birds to do much foraging in the early mornings, but do not affect social interactions that much; so they make good use of the opportunity. Another is that, singing loud and proud first thing in the morning tells everyone within hearing distance that they were strong and healthy enough to survive the night. In other words, they are saying,
“I am still alive!”
Jesus used birds, and other creations of God, to make one of the most poignant points about Gods providence.
READ Matthew 6:26-33
“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:26-33 )
In this very profound teaching, a part of the “Sermon On The Mount,” Jesus is used relatively insignificant creations of God, like birds, flowers and grass; which do not have the breath of God in them, have not been created in His image and likeness, and have not been given dominion over this earth, and neither sow nor reap; to illustrate God’s care and goodness, and to draw our attention to the fact that God’s care for us is bigger, wider, deeper and higher!
Jesus tells us we will see the full manifestation of this care if only we will seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Does this mean children of God should not work? No! It rather means God is going to add His presence to our lives, and His blessings to our work, just like He did for Joseph even in prison; and take all our anxiety away.
I have experienced it, and it brings me a lot of peace. You can experience it too.
