Anger!
A friend of mine posted a very disturbing video on his status. In the video, a visibly very angry man who looks like someone in his fifties, stood on the balcony of his first floor apartment shouting at someone downstairs. He then rushed into the apartment, and rushed back to the balcony holding something that looked like a saucepan and angrily threw it at the person he was shouting at; but he slipped, went over the railings and came crashingΒ down! I pray and hope he survived.
His anger was directed at someone else; but he might end up paying for it dearly.
Anger is a very normal human emotion, but it can be controlled. We should get angry, but we should not let our anger control us. I know some things can be really, really annoying.
For our own safety, we need to control our anger. There are many in jail, maimed, full of regrets and even dead, because of one bout of uncontrolled anger. Whatever it is, it is not worth it.
What does Bible say about anger?
READ Ephesians 4:26-27
βBe angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26-27)
The scripture text above tells us anger can lead us to sin. Isn’t it interesting that we become the sinners and the one who angered us goes free? When anger is not dealt with immediately, and is allowed to linger, it leads to bitterness; which is a more toxic emotion.
Absalom was bitter for two years, and finally murdered his half brother, Amnon (2 Samuel 13:23-28). He ultimately paid for his bitterness with his own death (2 Samuel 18:14-15)!
Anger and bitterness hurt you more than it hurts the other person.
Don’t hurt yourself because of someone’s lack of thoughtfulness.
MEMORY VERSE
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” (James 1:19-20)
QUESTIONS
1. Are you angry, probably because you were treated unfairly?
2. Do you know staying angry is not good for your health? Don’t let it linger.
PRAYER TIP
Father, thank you for anger; for everything you created is good. Please help us to know when to be angry, when not to be angry and when to stop being angry, in Jesus’ name.
