Growing up, I used to think that the whole world got wet anytime it rained; that when it rained, it rained in the whole world! But as I grew, and learnt,  I got to know that was not the case. It is no more surprising to move from a place experiencing torrential rains, to another place only to see it is as dry as the desert!

I realize  that, even after spending more than two score years on this earth, I know so little about it, and still have a lot of learn. It is very humbling that I have to continuously unmake, remake and update what I thought was “truth”! Recently, I had to dismantle a lot of the things I thought I knew about African culture, and beliefs. I took a course called the “Gospel, Ministry and Culture,” and it was not only revealing, but was also very humbling to learn what several researchers have uncovered about the deep and rich cultural practices of our people; carefully passed on by oral tradition over so many years!

The more I get to know, the more I realize I know so little, and the more humble I become. I want to know more, so I can be humbled more!

Jesus, the greatest teacher ever, knew this, and was the source of His greatness.

READ Matthew 11:25-26, 29-30

At that time Jesus said,

“I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.”

————————————-

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

(Matthew 11:25-26, 29-30)

Jesus was praising the Father for hiding the things of the kingdom from the “wise and learned”, and revealing it to “little children”.

Little children are those who are emptied (of all prejudice and worldly wisdom) and trusting (of God and His omnipotence).  Little children are open to learn, and willing too.  These are the ones God wants to work with. He wants a pure heart, and a clean mind; because there is so much He is yet to reveal, and willing to reveal.

Jesus was like that, and that underlies His greatness. This is what Jesus said about himself: He said He was “gentle and humble in heart” (vv. 29).

I pray for the Jesus kind of humility so that I can learn.

I believe it will be your prayer too.

MEMORY VERSE

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.”
(Matthew 11:29)

QUESTIONS

  • Are you willing to learn from God?
  • Are you willing to be humble like a little child?

PRAYER TIP

Father, please help us not to
let what we know, or think
we know, be a hindrance
to knowing You more.

URGENT CALL

By nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God. We ultimately face the wrath of God!

But God in His mercy and love gives us a chance to reverse this trend, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make that decision for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God!

Do you want to make that decision today?

Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer” for
guidance if you want to
make that decision.

We will be happy to hear from you through the contact information on that page.

God richly bless you.
