Only God!

“My life brutally ‘ended’; 80-year-old murdered MP’s mother cries out!”
This was the screaming headline of the Daily Graphic, the day after the 49-year-old Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman Constituency, in Ghana, was killed in a suspected armed robbery attack while returning from a campaign tour.
“I feel like my life has been snuffed out,” lamented the 80-year-old mother of the murdered Member of Parliament, who depended on her only son for everything.
I was heartbroken when I heard the words of the old woman, because my mom is around the same age, and I am her only son too. I can relate deeply to how she felt.
It is unthinkable that someone who cannot create even an ant, can decide to terminate the life of a fellow human being, whatever his crime. It is unthinkable!
But the greed, pride and wickedness in the earth makes all these happen! Only the fear of God makes sense in all these! Nothing else makes sense!
God’s laws and commands are meant absolutely for our peace; and until we all come to that realization, and come to the saving knowledge of Christ, peace will always elude us.
READ Exodus 20:1-17
And God spoke all these words:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
“You shall not murder.
“You shall not commit adultery.
“You shall not steal.
“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
(Exodus 20:1-17 NIV)
The popular Ten Commandments said a lot of things; but to digest them, I want to take apart the things we are told NOT to do into ten lines as follows:
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make unto yourself any image in the form of anything.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
4. You shall not murder.
5. You shall not commit adultery.
6. You shall not steal.
7. You shall not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
8. You shall not covet neighbour’s house.
9. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife.
10. You shall not covet you neighbour’s slaves, animals, or anything else.
Do you notice that only three (3) concern God; and that seven (7) out of the ten (10) concern how we relate with one another? God is that interested in our peaceful co-existence!
When pressed to give the greatest laws, Jesus summarized everything into two, saying:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)
We miss it all when we ignore these. Only the fear of God can bring peace to this earth.
MEMORY VERSE
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind…Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37, 39)

URGENT CALL
By nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God. We ultimately face the wrath of God!
But God in His mercy and love gives us a chance to reverse this trend, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.
The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.
Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.
It is a very personal decision. No one can make for you.
If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God!
Do you want to make that decision today?
Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer” for guidance if you want to make that decision.
We will be happy to hear from you through the contact information on that page.
God richly bless you
