Another remarkable demonstration of faith,  is that of the thief on the cross. He recognized that Jesus was the sinless, infallible Lamb of God; and rebuked his dying colleague for scoffing at Jesus. Let’s read it.

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

But the other criminal protested,
“Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die?  We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

And Jesus replied,
“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

 (Luke 23:39-43 NLT)

These thieves had gotten to the end of the road; their sins had caught up with them and they were being executed!

Each of them made a request. One made a request by questioning if Jesus was the Messiah, and challenging Him to save Himself, and save them! The other acknowledged that Jesus was the Son of God, and acknowledged his own sinfulness. Then he acknowledged Jesus’ holiness and authority by saying,

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

Jesus obliged him, saying,

“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

This man, called Jesus, gives something out every time He sees faith. He gives healing, forgiveness of sins, raising of the dead, and eternal life.

He continued to give, even on the cross! To Him, it is never too late.

MEMORY VERSE

“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
(Luke 23:43)
