“Good Morning,” was the title of the Sermon I preached at the funeral of Mama Ellen C. Kwawukume on Saturday. The message was about God’s plan at creation, and His plan now. The text was taken from Isaiah 60:16-20 (NIV) which reads,

“You will drink the milk of nations and be nursed at royal breasts. Then you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, and silver in place of iron. Instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and iron in place of stones. I will make peace your governor and well-being your ruler. No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for THE LORD WILL BE YOUR EVERLASTING LIGHT, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more;  THE LORD WILL BE YOUR EVERLASTING LIGHT, and your days of sorrow will end.”

“We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman that I call Mama. I thank Mama for hand-picking me to do this.

Mama knows I can talk the whole day about her, but she chose to give me the role of sharing the word, and the reason is simple. Mama is a big fan of Testimony Devotional, a Daily Devotional movement God used me to start.  We met quite often, since I live about 15 minutes away; and we usually discussed construction, or gardening. But we interacted Daily through God’s Word, on  Testimony Devotional.

Mama believed in God. I have no doubt, because Mama always looked forward to being in God’s presence, and it became a lifestyle. Mama would greet you saying,

"Good morning"

whether she meets you in the morning, afternoon, evening or night.

When I asked her the reason for the greeting, she smiled and told me:

"There is no night in Zion."

Mama was referring to  Isaiah 60:19-20 which says.

The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for THE LORD WILL BE YOUR EVERLASTING LIGHT, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more;  THE LORD WILL BE YOUR EVERLASTING LIGHT, and your days of sorrow will end.

This prophesy of Isaiah talks about the Zion; the new Jerusalem, the city of God!

Mama believed in this city so much that she internalized it; believed it; lived it; spoke it; and greeted in it. We celebrate Mama today because she has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith!

God’s original intention was not for man to die.

In the account of creation, God told Adam,

“You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
(Genesis 2:16-17 NLT)

But after Man disobeyed God, He said,

“Look, the human beingshave become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” (Genesis 3:22 NLT)

The tree He spoke about in Genesis 3:22, the tree of life, was not forbidden! Man was permitted to eat of that tree and live forever. But that was taken away after the disobedience!

But there is Good news! In Revelations 22 we read:

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him.

And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads.

And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

(Revelations 22: 1-5 NLT)

God has not given up on us, and has made the tree of life still available.

Bible says in John 3:17-18

“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him.”

Mama BELIEVED in God, and believed that Jesus Christ  was sent to die for her.  I am confident she is in God’s presence right now.

Do you believe in God, and his son Jesus Christ too? Where are you headed if you die today?

Whenever Mama’s hearty “GOOD MORNING” rings in your ear, remember that there is a place, where,

There is no night, and there is no need for lamps or sun—because the Lord God himself shines.

And you can be there too.

Thank you, and let us pray.

URGENT CALL

Every soul is valuable to God, far more than the entire world! But by nature, we are all sinful, and alienated from God, and we ultimately face his wrath!

God in His mercy and love made a way for us to remedy this. He gives us a chance to reverse this downward spiral to destruction, join His family, be part of His household, and become His children.

The first step to becoming a member of God’s household is for us to be saved.

Salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior.

It is a very personal decision. No one can make that decision for you.

If you make that decision today, there will be great singing and rejoicing in heaven; because one new member has joined the family and household of God! A soul, much, much more valuable than the world, has been saved from destruction!

Do you want to make that decision today?

Please visit “The Believer’s Prayer
for guidance if you want
to make that decision.

We will be happy to hear from you through the contact information on that page, or the ones at the top of this page. Don’t delay. Make this very personal decision today!
